Clinical Supervision
for Texas LMSWs
Supportive, structured clinical supervision designed to help Texas LMSWs strengthen their clinical judgment, build confidence, and develop the skills needed for independent clinical practice.
Great clinical supervision should help social workers become more than competent clinicians. It should help them discover the kind of clinician they want to be.
PREPARING FOR INDEPENDENT PRACTICE. BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN CLINICAL JUDGMENT.
Who This Is For
This program is intended primarily for social workers who hold an active Texas LMSW license and are seeking qualifying clinical supervision toward LCSW licensure.
A good fit if you are:
✓ A recent MSW graduate or early-career social worker
✓ Transitioning into clinical practice
✓ Working in, or preparing to enter, a clinical setting
✓ Looking for outside supervision your employer doesn't provide
✓ Able to participate consistently and meet documentation, ethical, and supervision-plan requirements
Each applicant's license and clinical setting is reviewed for fit.
Texas LCSW Requirements
Texas LCSW applicants must document all three of the following. My curriculum is built around this timeline.
Completion of supervision does not automatically guarantee licensure or board acceptance of hours.
Individual Supervision
Weekly one-on-one meetings with personalized guidance, case consultation, clinical skill-building, and discussion of your professional development goals.
Includes:
✓ Case consultation
✓ Clinical skill-building
✓ Professional development goals
Session Duration: Weekly · approximately 1 hour · virtual
Group Supervision
Weekly small-group meetings, limited to 2–6 LMSWs, with structured discussion of clinical cases and the questions you'll face in practice.
Includes:
✓ Clinical case discussion
✓ Ethical dilemmas
✓ Assessment, diagnosis & treatment planning
✓ Professional growth
Session Duration: Weekly · virtual
You may choose individual, group, or a combination, based on your learning needs, availability, and an agreed supervision plan. No sliding scale.
A 24-Month Curriculum
A clear learning pathway with weekly professional-development topics, rather than relying only on unstructured case discussion. Supervision may continue beyond the curriculum when needed to meet individual requirements.
MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR
Chioma Afulezi, LCSW-S, MBA, MSW
With over 14 years of experience in social work, I've had the opportunity to work in different areas of the field, from direct clinical practice to healthcare leadership. Those experiences have shaped how I approach supervision and the importance I place on developing strong, confident clinicians.
I believe supervision should be a space where you feel comfortable asking questions, discussing challenges, and learning without feeling judged. At the same time, I believe in challenging you to think critically, trust your clinical judgment, and become more confident in the decisions you make.
My approach is supportive, but also hands-on. We'll work through real clinical situations, explore different perspectives, and focus on building skills you can actually use in your day-to-day practice. I also recognize that everyone comes into supervision with different experiences, strengths, and areas where they want to grow. My goal is to meet you where you are while helping you continue to develop.
For me, supervision is about more than completing the required hours. It's about having someone in your corner who will guide you, challenge you when needed, and support you as you grow into your own identity as a clinical social worker.
HOW TO GET STARTED

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to become an LCSW in Texas?

Can supervision be completed virtually?
Yes. All supervision is provided virtually, with clear expectations and confidentiality safeguards for virtual sessions.

Your license and clinical setting are reviewed for fit during the consultation process. [Answer to be confirmed with Chioma]
What happens after I submit an application?
I'll follow up to discuss your goals, licensure status, current role, preferred format, and availability, then schedule a brief fit consultation. No supervision relationship begins solely by submitting a form.
Apply for Supervision
Tell me a little about where you are in your licensure journey. I'll follow up to discuss your goals and schedule a brief fit consultation. My program is limited to approximately 5–10 supervisees, so I invite you to apply and inquire about current openings.
Prefer to talk first?
Submitting an inquiry or application does not establish a supervisory relationship. Acceptance is subject to review of eligibility, availability, and a signed supervision agreement. Each supervisee is responsible for understanding and meeting the applicable licensing requirements.
